Weaving Stories Launches in Salvador, Brazil
Celebrating Diasporic Narratives in the Heart of Afro-Brazilian Culture
PICHA proudly launched Weaving Stories in Salvador, Bahia, a city with profound ties to the African diaspora and a rich legacy of Black resistance, art, and spiritual heritage. As a platform committed to elevating Afrocentric visual content, PICHA created Weaving Stories to spotlight the voices and visions of Black women photographers across the globe.
The launch event took place at the Goethe Institute in Salvador and featured a stunning exhibition by two Brazilian artists featured in the book: Ana Carolina Haddad and Geovana Santos. Their work explores themes of identity, memory, and feminine power through a deeply rooted Brazilian lens.
The turnout was remarkable. Attendees filled the space to engage with the photography, celebrate Afro-Brazilian culture, and connect around the shared language of visual storytelling. The evening was a vibrant testament to the emotional power of representation.
PICHA’s mission is to reshape how the world sees Africa and its diaspora — through authentic, powerful visuals that reflect our communities with dignity and nuance. This exhibition in Salvador is a reflection of that commitment.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Goethe Institute in Salvador for hosting the event and supporting this cultural exchange. Their collaboration was instrumental in making this vision a reality.
With Weaving Stories, PICHA continues to create spaces — both in print and in person — where Black stories are not only seen but celebrated.
